Why we believe this this trainings is so important…

Dietitians who work with people with periods need to have the skills and knowledge to support people with endo. We know that’s a big statement, but let us share some astounding facts to back it up:

  • Endometriosis is estimated to impact 1 in 7 (14%) of people with periods (AIHW 2023). Given that diabetes impacts 1 in 20 and there are many more dietitians in the diabetes space, it’s clear that there is a significant lack of dietitians out there to support people with endo!

  • It takes an average of 6.5 years from onset of symptoms to diagnosis. We can all play a role in helping people get they support they deserve sooner.

  • 80-90% of people with endo have gut symptoms (Ek et al., 2014) making them 3 x more likely to be diagnosed with IBS (Nabi et al., 2022).

  • Around 30-50% of people with endometriosis experience fertility challenges (Verkauf, 1987).

  • And last but not least, 44% of people with endo make dietary changes and it’s rated as the 3rd most effective self-management strategy for pain behind heat and cannibis (Armour et al. 2019). Nutrition has so much potential for improving symptoms but there is so little support out there for the people who want it.
